L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti Launches Summer of Learning Initiative to Combat Summer Learning Loss

"Learning happens everywhere, not only in the classroom...More than half of the achievement gap between lower- and higher-income youth is due to unequal access to summer learning opportunities." It is encouraging to see Mayor Garcetti and school officials in L.A. create initiatives such as Los Angeles Summer of Learning to raise awareness about and combat the summer learning gap. Through communication and collaboration, we can expand this effort to a national scale in various cities and end the summer learning loss that disproportionately harms K-12 students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
